Pieced together by sporadic clues, the story of the Stryker Brothers is primarily one of lore – of myth more than legend. The tapes resurrected from the ashes of a burned down prison are the only recordings known to date. One would assume there would be a trail marked by musical footprints and witnesses leading the way to the identity of the brothers, but that is not the case. There are small pockets of corroborators – some residing in barren West Texas towns and some overseas – who have made mention of the Stryker Brothers in passing on social media, in articles and in stories that have been passed from one generation to the next. But none of which, whether individually or paired with other accounts, have pieced together the puzzle that is the Stryker Brothers.
I have spent the better part of the last 5 years, off and on, seeking out the Stryker Brothers. I make no claim to the facts presented here – I have no proof to back up the stories I’ve been told. I have come to believe that everything I have been told is a truth yet much of it isn’t reality. What I do know is that once these songs see the light of day and have life breathed back into them, the Stryker Brothers story will not remain untold.
